This is a
very unique, one-of- a-kind Carvin Bolt (more one-of-a-kind than the
average Carvin!). Rick scored this on eBay, from a person who had
it custom made in about 2003 with a 1-piece billet of burl maple,
and 5A highly flamed maple neck. The 1 piece burl blank used to
make the body cost $400 and the neck blank $125. It finished with
Carvin's cherry sunburst finish, the neck is gloss, with a satin
fingerboard. The pickups are Fender vintage Strat set with a 5-way
selector, single volume and tone controls, and a non-functioning
mini-switch originally installed for future humbucking coil-splitting.
It has Sperzel locking tuners, comes with SKB/Carvin hardshell case.
This is a
stunning instrument, a great example of the non-standard builds that
Carvin will do. |

Here's a very classy 2005 Bolt-T, finished in Classic White on
mahogany with maple neck and matching headstock. It also has a
Birdseye maple fingerboard with abalone dots, Wilkinson tremolo, and
gold hardware.
After receiving it, David added a pearloid truss rod cover with
matches the pickguard very nicely, as well as a cream pickup
selector switch cover, and pearl keys for the Sperzel tuners.
Very nice!

In summer of 2004, Carvin
made a move that was welcomed by many of their customers: the return of
the early-90's style "pointed" headstock (read
more here). This was a limited-time
option, which identically replicated the headstock shape that was use in
1990 and 1991.
And this
is one of those special instruments; a 2004 Bolt+T with a
reverse-pointed headstock. It's finished in emerald green on swamp
ash, with maple fingerboard, chrome hardware, Wilkinson tremolo and dual
humbuckers/single coil pickup configuration.

Another Dragonburst model makes an appearance! This is a 2006
model, and is the first dragonburst Bolt to be submitted to the
site. It has an alder body with a quilted maple top and
matching reverse quilted headstock on a 14" radius maple neck.
It has an ebony fingerboard with medium-jumbo stainless steel frets
and abalone dot inlays. Other features include a black
pearloid pickguard, chrome hardware, Wilkinson tremolo, and Dunlop
straploks. Electronics consist of a a C22B in the bridge
position, and a pair of AP11 single coils.

Here's Jason's second Bolt (see his former koa-topped swamp ash one
below). This one is also swamp ash, and in this case, finished
in sapphire blue. It's loaded with Twinblade pickups in a
pearloid pickguard, a Birdseye maple fingerboard with abalone dot
inlays and stainless steel frets, and chrome hardware with a
Wilkinson tremolo.

Drew's Bolt

This is a very nice
looking 2006 model Bolt, with looks that would rival any Strat.
It's finished in Tobacco Sunburst, with a very gradual fade, on
alder. The neck is maple with a gloss finish, and it has a
maple fingerboard. Other features include abalone dot inlays,
chrome hardware, and white pearloid pickguard.
Drew
says:
"Amazing guitar! This one arrived absolutely flawless from the factory.
I thoroughly checked it over several times in the week or two after I
got it in the mail, and I couldn't find so much as a tiny scratch or
dent. Impressive work!
Also of note is that since receiving the guitar, the mini-switch used
for activating the bridge pickup has been removed and replaced with a
second tone pot. The original tone pot now controls the tone of the neck
pickup, and the new one controls the bridge tone. Much better for my
style!"
